The Sweet Swap
Holiday classrooms are full of small magic. Paper snowflakes, Secret Santa bags, and the excitement of unwrapping something unexpected.
Aari opens her gift to find a single chocolate truffle and a note: “Only one piece per day. Please savor.” She squints. Why does her gift come with instructions?
Next to her, Zara unwraps hand-knitted mittens with slightly crooked thumbs. Clearly made with care. She glances over and says, “Maybe your Secret Santa wanted your joy to last longer.”
Seconds later, Zara looks over to see chocolate-smeared cheeks, a mouth full of truffle, and wrappers everywhere.
“At least you lasted ten seconds.”
Kids don’t overthink joy. They don’t save it for later. When something brings happiness, they dive right in.
Maybe savoring isn’t always about slowing down.
Sometimes it’s about letting joy happen. All at once.
